ANTA News From The President

Dear ANTA Members, Fellow Teraians and Friends of Terai:

We just got back from a very hectic; yet productive get-together of ANTA members at the ANMA-NASeA Joint Convention hosted by local Chicago Nepali Pariwar (CNP). ANTA was invited as a Guest Association at the joint convention.

It'd be debt on our part if we miss to express our gratitude to Mr. Jay Mandal – the president of CNP and Co-chair of the Joint Convention for his hospitality and flawless planning of all the events of this huge convention.

On September 1, 2006, ANTA – Chicago Chapter hosted a grand evening packed with varieties of Nepali cuisine, entertainments and cultural programs for all the ANTA Members present at the local Mt. Everest Restaurant. We thank Mr. Rama Kant Kharel, the owner of the restaurant as well as a proud Life Member of ANTA, for his hospitality and fun-filled evening. While the party was on, we also accomplished some important businesses as itemized below:

ANTA – New Members & Fund Raising for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Students in Rauthat Dist., Nepal

We are proud to report that many prominent leaders of the North American Nepali diaspora pledged to support our organization and its noble causes. Some of them joined ANTA as its Life Members. Lalit Jha is in the process of compiling all the names of new members which will be disseminated soon.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome all the new members to our great ANTA pariwar. We feel truly blessed to have their support.

We did a fabulous fund-raising to support our project in Rautahat, Nepal. We raised approx. $1,500 to fund this project. Special thanks to Mukesh Singh who made this campaign a success. Lalit will soon update us with the names of individuals who pledged for this project. Thanks to all of you who supported us!!

ANTA – Forum: Special Address by Hon. Shushil Koirala, VP, Nepali Congress

Lalit Jha and Jay Mandal jointly organized a forum on ANTA. Lalit did excellent job in moderating the session. Mrs. Amrit Tuladhar, President of ANA, was the chief guest at the Forum – which was also addressed by Mrs. Annapurna Deo and Dr. Pramod Kantha (both Founding Members of ANTA).

The forum was attended by many distinguished personalities from across America as well as from Nepal. We had an honor of having presence of Hon. Mr. Shushil Koirala and Arun Koirala – both senior leaders of Nepali Congress. Hon. Vice president of Nepali Congress, Mr. Shushil Koirala, graciously accepted to address the forum in minutes of notice. He quoted one of the quotations from late B.P. Koirala – "The people from Terai possess the highest level of pride in their nationality." He promised to deliver the message of ANTA to his Party as well as the SPA Government. He discussed various problems faced by Terai people – including the current citizenship issues and deprivation of Teraians in Nepal Army. Emphasizing that solution to all these problems can be found only in democracy, he urged all to bolster democratic values in the New Nepal.

In the end, the forum heard melodious Maithili songs by Jagadish Yadav. Ratan Jha brought the session to an end by expressing sincere thanks and gratitude to all the participants of the forum.

With warm regards,
Ratan Jha
President - ANTA
